Helen Garforth - founding Director of independent voluntary sector consultancy Just Ideas Sustainable Solutions Ltd.
A highly experienced facilitator, trainer, writer and researcher with proven talent for engaging people in action for change, Helen is founding Director of independent voluntary sector consultancy Just Ideas Sustainable Solutions Ltd. With an academic background in Social Anthropology and Development, Helen’s career history began in international development, and included a stint as Director of a national charity. Since founding Just Ideas she has carried out significant pieces of work for and in partnership with a range of organisations in the voluntary and public sectors. Underpinning a diversity of clients and projects is a commitment to social and environmental justice and a methodology that is based on participation and partnership.
Helen is a Senior Associate with Institute of Voluntary Action research, particularly focusing on the facilitation of cross sector partnerships in health and care, including the Health and Social Value and Building Health Partnerships programmes – working with Local Authorities, Clinical Commissioning Groups and Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise organisations to improve health and wellbeing outcomes. Other clients range from small community organisations such as Utulivu (a diaspora women’s empowerment group) to national charities such as the Fairtrade Foundation and Freedom from Torture to international NGOs such as PlanUK.
Helen’s current portfolio of projects includes using a Kenyan TV soap opera as a catalyst for global learning in schools; supporting local areas to develop resident-led partnerships for community resilience under the Big Local programme; delivering a series of Model UN Climate Conferences and sustainability initiatives with young people for InterClimate Network.
