John Hitchin - Director of Research and Deputy Chief Executive at Renaisi
John is an experienced evaluator, researcher, facilitator and project manager. He is responsible for Renaisi’s research and consultancy work, alongside the development and support of new services within the organisation. He set up and has developed Renaisi’s research work over the past four years, managing a number of large evaluation and research projects. This has included neighbourhood based work, developing support for small charities and innovative projects, local authority work and large national evaluations for government and charities. His work has involved supporting organisations to understand their impact and value, and how to improve and innovate in the delivery of their services. He has conducted impact, process and developmental studies.
He is experienced in qualitative research methods, particularly in the use of in-depth interviews, and was trained by the National Centre for Social Research. He also has strong empirical skills and experience of using RCTs and mixed method studies, having just completed an MSc in Behavioural Science at the London School of Economics. He is particularly interested in researching motivations for and influences of volunteering and other pro-social behaviours.
John’s earlier academic (BA Warwick, MA Kings College) and previous experience has given him a good knowledge and understanding of public and social policy. He is a Fellow of the RSA, is a Director of London Capital Credit Union and Trustee of the Young Women’s Trust.
